Doing that will cause Aspell to treat EVERY word with a "-" as a single word. Thus every hyphenated word will be flagged as a misspelling. Even if the individual parts are in the dictionary.

His is an interesting case. Co-counsel is a legitimate word, but Co is not. As I said, google indicates that co-counsel is preferred to cocounsel. The same with the other words he is adding.

What do you say? Should Aspell treat the hyphen more like an
ordinary letter?

No. The correct thing to do is first check if "co-counsel" is in the dictionary, than if not check both parts. Aspell does not support this behavior yet.
