I've expressed reservations about the macros anyway. I'd be surprised
if they were particuarly widely used, as I can't imagine many LaTeX
documents have autoconf build systems, and there should certainly be
far fewer of them. The only real point I can think of for having most
of them is to give a configure-time error rather than a build-time
error, and though that's neat I'm not sure it's a big win. (If you try
to load a non-existent package in LaTeX, you get a sensible error;
autoconf macros are mostly useful, therefore, for packages that come
in different, incompatible versions.)
