:)  Heck, you saw it before I could react :)

But in fact my choice was different: I do think that errors from
config.status should be reported in config.log.  So I would not apply
your patch, rather, a patch which opens AC_FD_LOG to config.status.

That's a different issue which was already raised a few months ago
(when you were against my using AC_MSG_ERROR in config.status :).

The question is: shall we make the existence of config.status official
to users, or we continue giving the impression that it is configure
that does the instantiation job.

I'm OK with both.  But we have to decide the policy about this
respect.
