I'd like some ideas/opinions on the matter of multiple empty lines, and
trailing blanks.
In the case of Autoconf, neither matter, so they are smashed.
When moving the GNU M4 test suite to Autotest, I first had to let
autom4te pass multiple empty lines, since some of the expected results
produce such empty lines.
I don't like that too much, but why not.
As far as trailing blanks are concerned, I'm quite ferociously against
them: they are way too dangerous, as they can easily be destroyed.
But I need them.
Currently I see two means to have them: introduce quadrigraphs for
space and tab, or/and introduce a quadrigraph marking the eol, but
which is to be removed in the actual output.
What do you think would be best?
