Installation Problem

Hi!

I am trying to install "autoconf" and realised that I needed to have
version 1.3 or greater. Accordingly I have installed version 1.4 of M4 in
"/rec/bin". Now I realised that I needed to set the M4 environment
variable to the above path (/rec/bin). This actually works as I get:

checking for gm4... /rec/bin

at the console. But in the next line it complains that m4 dosent support
frozen files and quits saying version 1.4 is required.

Any observations would be appreciated.
