In fact the Windows operating system uses *both* slash *and* backslash
as *native* directory separators. Always has -- so did MS-DOS, (from
v2.00 onwards).
It's only cmd.exe, (command.com), and some command line tools which
mishandle the slash, that lead to this misconception.
