If a "PC" is defined as having evolved from the original IBM PC (x86) architecture, then "yes" :-).

Going back to the original question, I think a good thing to ask is 'what does the triple mean'? Although I think the answer to the original question is "because that's what 'uname -p' reports", isn't it?
