Well, since this part of the Autoconf manual does not deal with any
Automake functionality, would be out of place in the diagram
which may be found on

So, in packages using Autoconf but not Automake, files are
typically hand-written, thus both authored by the package developer, as
well as files used at configure time.  I think that is what the left
resp. right columns in that diagram are supposed to show.  I agree that
the diagram is confusing that way, though; not sure what would be a good
way to fix that.
