Yes, your fix looks like what I was describing. I assume you've tested it
with competing automake versions, so go ahead and apply.

Correct - the patch is against the bleeding edge of development, and will
appear when 2.66 is released. It is up to your distro whether they want
to backport it to a re-release of 2.63.
