I believe this doesn't exist.  All the incompatibilities in m4
files I've encountered are related to Autoconf, not Automake.

Of course Autoconf incompatibilities are not something we can
solve by putting Automake API versions in directory names

why aclocal's job does not belong to Automake.

longing the day `aclocal' will be replaced by a better
Autoconf-supplied equivalent.


That would be nice...any indication it'll happen?

Back on topic: so do you want me to change the patch over to using $acdir and not acdir-APIVERSION?
