Ralf, please go ahead and apply the patches you deem appropriate.

Sorry for being unresponsive.  I'm swamped (trying to finish my
thesis) and unlikely to touch Automake before July.  The few free time
I've got I prefer to not spend in front of a computer.

I'm also considering resigning as Automake maintainer (since
cannot maintain anything right now, and I'm not sure I will want
to spend to much time on Automake in the furte).
