Basically just for consistency: on my system the previous code worked
correctly.

However, according to comments in autoconf (file `lib/m4sugar/m4sh.m4',
macro `AS_BOURNE_COMPATIBLE'), the setting of BIN_SH (which was present
in the old snippet) had been removed for good reasons, explored in:
