What kind of bugs? And why is the new approach better in this regard?

Well, I also compile in vim most of the time. However, sometimes I still
want to see which files are recompiled. And, I still compile directly
quite often.

I guess the speed gain won't be too big -- for my projects it's
something about 17 and 15 seconds or so (haven't measured exactly), and
it uses quite small source files with many dependencies. (Or does that
depend on the overall project size?)

But what does that got to do with gcc3?

Well, there is one fundamental obstacle to this: I've no clue about
Perl :-(
