It's running. It executes code, but just nothing sane until I
manually assert /RESET.

None of these problems apply. It programs the part correctly, managing
to write & verify many K of flash. It just doesn't come out of reset
cleanly. Which is odd, because as I understand it the jtag-ice
has to put the device in reset before it can program the flash..

>From the lack of other replies, I'm getting the message that this
is not a common failure mode. I plan to try a MKII jtag-ice and
see how that changes things - I suppose it is possible that the
MKI I am using is fubar'd somehow.
