Nope, the STK600 is much younger than the AVRISPmkII, and (as you
noticed), it uses a slightly different algorithm.
"-c avrisp2" is the correct one, together with "-P usb", or
"-P usb:<last part of serial number>" if you've got more than
one device.

That's a bug that has been fixed in the current sources: the default
port was just wrong (should be "usb").
