Hi,

i once had a similar problem.  (related to configure, not to gdb).
If i remember correctly, it was related to the access rights
of the directory /tmp.
What does "ls -l / | grep tmp" look like?

Here's mine:
drwxrwxrwt   36 root     root         2048 Feb 11 19:30 tmp
