[avr-gcc-list] New to the list and needing a clue.

Hi to all.
I'm relative new to microcontrollers programming; I've to build a kind of a 
digital potentiometer using a micro to control the process. I think I'll use a 
4433 but I'm absolutely not shure about that. 
So the question is: what other micros can I use to accomplish that task?
