Hi Jürgen,

The JTAG ICE mkII is more expensive, but I already own one to program
the ATmega64 I use in other projects. So, it's also a convenient ISP
programmer.

It seems though that I need to qualify what I said earlier about using
the JTAG ICE mKII to program the ATmega8. Once I upgraded the JTAG ICE
mkII firmware to version 0x0421 using AVR Studio I could read the
fuses and device ID using avrdude, which I couldn't before the
upgrade, but it seems I still cannot program the flash using avrdude,
although it works in AVR Studio 4.12 Service Pack 4. If I do get
programming working using avrdude, I'll report my experience to the
mailing list.

Cheers,
Shaun

Hi Shaun,

you are welcome...

I've just thought the the JTAG ICE mkII is a little bit too expensive
for using it as an ISP...
