Hi Waldek, many thanks four your report!

| I have uptdated to build-improvements form 29.09.2006 and tried it

| both with system gcl and with bundled gcl (using `--without-gcl')

|           && rm -f $file && PATH=../src:$PATH msgfmt -o $file fr.po
| /bin/sh: line 1: msgfmt: command not found
| make[6]: *** [fr.gmo] Błąd 127

This is a binutils inside GCL issue. I don't know what to do about
it. Maybe modify GCL not to build with intl' support?

| Again on debian unstable using installed gcl fails:

| make[2]: Wejście do katalogu `/home/s/test/tt/axiom7/ax-build/lsp'

Is it possible this might be a shell issue? It looks to me as if the
mutiline format string isn't being properly interpreted as a string
when passed to GCL. What shell was that?

[...]

| When I modified the Makefile to put the 'compiler::link' form on a
| single line I was able to restart the build. Build produced stopped latex
| process later, but appearently I got working AXIOMsys.

I'll eventually get to the latex part.

For the moment, I've "mysteriously broken" my local tree. I propose
to nominate Axiom for the most voodoo-esque software :-)
