    Yes, definitely IMHO).  The problem here is not the lack of  
    understanding of
    what could be done (writing the C code for these primitives is actually
    quite simple), the problem is more like there is not enough resources
    to finish the modular infrastructure Gary started.  Once the  
    infrastructure
    finished and released, it should be quite straightforward to use it.

We are miscommunicating, because what I had in mind is something
completely different.  Namely, to add to M4 a semigeneral feature
which could be used by M4 user programs to do this job in a faster
way.

I think that approach is generally cleaner than the approach of making
an app dynamically load C programs.  I wonder if anyone has tried seeing
if it is applicable.
