Yes.

You should get one with CVS Emacs in case you use the menu entry for
"Set Master File" or for previewing a region.

Even when no _region_.tex file existed before?  Strange.

It shows up?  IIRC we had reports which said something about the
dialog not showing up or being covered by the main Emacs window.
Anyway, the freeze is the problem I am concerned about.  It would be
good if somebody could debug it and tell us what's the problem so that
either AUCTeX or Emacs could be fixed.
