Sorry Ralf, I did not communicate this clearly. This is also my
observation, the \maketitle is unaltered but some other command
(\author) receives the red backslash. Meanwhile I got the impression
that this is a new feature.

I have huge files where \maketitle has a red backslash after opening and
I will try to find a minimal example.
