Back in June, I tried to upgrade LilyPond to 2.53, without success.  I

Upon receiving this urgent call, I tried again with autoconf 2.56 (or
actually, latest CVS), but I get the same problems.  I don't think we
will try upgrading again before someone can shed some more light on
this.
