Your patch makes no difference in behavior of gnupload:

  bash-3.2$ make upzip
  make upzip
  gnupload --to address@hidden:releases/freesnell/
/home/jaffer/pub/FreeSnell.zip
  Enter GPG passphrase:
  Signing /home/jaffer/pub/FreeSnell.zip...
  Uploading /home/jaffer/pub/FreeSnell.zip to
address@hidden:releases/freesnell/...
You tried to execute: scp -d -t releases/freesnell/
Sorry, you are not allowed to execute that command.
  lost connection
  make: *** [upzip] Error 1

  bash-3.2$ make upzip
  make upzip
  gnupload --to address@hidden:freesnell /home/jaffer/pub/FreeSnell.zip
  Enter GPG passphrase:
  Signing /home/jaffer/pub/FreeSnell.zip...
  Uploading /home/jaffer/pub/FreeSnell.zip to address@hidden:freesnell...
You tried to execute: scp -d -t freesnell
Sorry, you are not allowed to execute that command.
  lost connection
  make: *** [upzip] Error 1
