building "tee" into "bash"

Since nobody uses the old Bourne shell '^' for '|'
any more, it is tempting to want to have "tee" built
into the shell using a syntax with '^' analogous
to '<' and '>' for redirection. "^^" could mean
"tee -a".

By the way, when "bash" added directory stack
access by extending ~ expansion, it answers a
desire I'd had for a long time. I always enjoyed
using the analogous feature (using '=') from
some versions of "csh".
