This looks like a csh-style alias, I think.  It definitely won't do
anything useful in bash, anyway.  I think this would be the equivalent
for bash (and other sh derivatives):
alias grep='grep -i'

You could also remove the alias entirely, if you don't care about -i,
or rename it.
