Bash Version: 4.2
Patch Level: 20
Release Status: release

Description:
Question already sent by ben@wongs.net in Dec 2007, but got no response:
        http://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/bug-bash/2007-12/msg00070.html

Repeat-By:
        1. Open an xterm
        2. run vi
        3. resize the xterm window
        4. quit vi
        5. write some long text on the prompt

You will see that the text is not wrapped correctly. It overlaps the
prompt.

Fix:
        Make it the default?
Debian have this in /etc/bash.bashrc :

        # check the window size after each command and, if necessary,
        # update the values of LINES and COLUMNS.
        shopt -s checkwinsize

I think it should be the default.
