This seems to be some interaction between FreeRTOS (currently version 4.2.1) and
the relax function of the linker, perhaps because the linker replaces CALL with
RCALL (or vice versa). At any rate, it's very difficult to come up with a
simple test case that shows this.
I will be working on a simpler program using FreeRTOS at some point and perhaps
will be able to come up with a small demonstration of the problem. In the
meantime, 1200 bytes out of 256K bytes is a small enough price to pay.
