I think you may have uncovered a bug, but not the one you think you
have :)
The -d option does indeed require an argument, namely:
1=parsing, 2=running
but if it gets an argument it doesn't understand (namely "-F"), it
just sets DEBUG, which appears to effectively turn on -d1 and -d2.
Another side-effect of setting the -d flag is that NO_FORK is
defined, effectively doing the -F for you.
I'm not familiar enough with getopt to provide a patch to this one.
