Indeed; maybe both.

The JDKs (1.4.2 and 1.5.0) seem to work with all my window managers.

Classpath + jamvm 1.3.2:

ctwm: crashes
twm: survives, but extra window decoration on drop-down menu
fvwm2: works
kde: not tested yet

The spurious exceptions happen with all windowmanagers that I tested.

Unfortunately, no. Interestingly enough, the application survives much
longer under ctwm when SYNCHRONIZE_GDK is defined. But my gdb tells me
it cannot find gdk_x_error(), and trying to print a stacktrace after the
jamvm crash also crashes my gdb.
