I'm happy to make invokeSimpleCommand public. But I'm less happy about the
handling of untagged responses in this new runSimpleCommand method. Untagged
responses are already handled via the asyncResponses mechanism, which is
necessary to detect mailbox state changes etc. So perhaps we could provide
read-only access to the asyncResponses list instead?
