width of who output

we are using a SuSE Linux 9 based server with Samba 2.2. Samba is talking to
the Windows PDC for it's user directory. Typical usernames have the format
hyp_adm+<4 characters>. This is more than 8 characters (12 characters). The
output of who version 5.0 suppresses all characters after the 8-th one, so
it only shows the domain name 'hyp_adm+' and nothing else.

It would be very nice if 'who' had an option to print all 32 characters of
the username available in utmp.
