Paul E, looking at your suggestion of canonicalize_file_name, that would
produce an absolute filename, which isn't what we want. Though, it
seems like that could be used on the source, on top of a "pwd"-like
function on the dest, which would be chopped off. That would give you a
relative filename. Is there even a getcwd-type function that accepts a
filename as an argument?
