Hi Paul,
thanks for your advice.
The NAS device does indeed use ACL. But I would expect them to cause
reproducible failures which is not the case here.
As I mentioned in my reply to Bob the error is not predicably reproducible,
and with the excessive amount of data a reasonable trace is not possible at
my current point of knowledge.

I will try to create and install a new chmod version and proceed there.
