Hi All,
this was starting to really confuse me so I went back and tried
compiling the whole of coreutils, both with and without the change I made (
which is at best a hack ). I logged the output of the make command and then
compared the 2 logs. Interestingly enough, there was 1 difference as
follows.....

I think we have something here. It's my guess that the compiler is over riding
the define statements and substituting the 64 bit open call when it sees
"__open64". If I only run "cc -E" on tempname.c, this didn't occur so
something is picking up the "__open64" and ignoring the define line.
Any views on this ?
