Bob and Tim,
Sorry this waited so long, but I had to work-around the issue and didn't get
back to checking it out.
I checked all the ulimit suggestions and all said unlimited. As I burn DVD iso's
from this machine, I regularly generate > 2GB files with no difficulty.
I copied a version of sort from Fedora Core 4 (sort version 5.2.1) and it runs
fine and it generated a 5.6 GB intermediate file with no problems.
Let me know if there is any other information I can provide or if I should set
up to get the source so I can debug it directly.
I just downloaded FC5 ISO images and installed it without doing any
compilations.
