I actually meant that "make distcheck" should run sanity.sh in both modes
before concluding that the package is ready for distribution. It's very
important that no version is released without passing the testsuite in
both modes.
The implementation may vary. Normally "make distcheck" runs "make check"
and knows nothing about local targets, such as remotecheck. I don't care
whether it's enforced by the makefiles or by rules outside the code. I
only care that it's being done.
By the way, I'm not implying anymore that it wasn't done for any
particular release.
