Rasku, I've wondered why they have not been used too.
RFC2396 - http://www.faqs.org/rfcs/rfc2396.html
There are issues raised in this forum regarding, IPV6, port numbers and
documentation that will do away if cvs adopts RFC2396 for CVSROOT
specifiers.

Has any thought of using "standard" URL type CVSROOT. For ext access, you
would have:
cvse://bach@faun.example.org/usr/local/cvsroot
For pserver:
cvsp://bach@faun.example.org/usr/local/cvsroot
For local:
cvs:///usr/local/cvsroot
