The number of people using psychiatric emergency services also is increasing. The rate of increase in psychiatric emergencies is not limited to the adult population. In one inner-city pediatric emergency department, use of the ED by psychiatric patients increased by 70% from 1992 to 1995 (Falsafi, 1996)...
