error on boot referred me to this email address...

hi, i'm having a bit of a problem with my linux mandrake server and i'm a
bit of a newbie, so please bear with me:

on completion of boot, as i get to the command line login prompt i am
greeted with this error message:

        INIT: Id "x" respawning too fast: disabled for 5 minutes

at which point the machine stays at the command line prompt instead of
switching, normally, to a gui login screen. i can login to the server via
the command line, but when i try to access mail i am told "/tmp/RxQgtaqF: no
space left on device" yet when i do a df i get results that indicate i have
plenty of space. thus far the server has only been used for postfix mail,
and occasionally slows down (to the point where moving the mouse around on
the login screen is laggy and interacting with the system is any way is
molasses-slow, which is not usually the case)... at this point i properly
shutdown/ restart the server, and i'm getting the error message above. any
help is appreciated, thanks in advance.
