Thanks for the report.
RMS recently (2 July) patched emacs' files.el so that
dired mode can handle GNU ls's --dired option.
Note that currently -D is not recognized. IMHO, that's
probably best, since short-named options might mean something
else to a non-GNU version of ls.
You didn't say what version of ls or of emacs you're using.
If you find a workaround for your situation, please post a
follow-up message.
