This is quite much - well, a real program other than test would
probably do much more processing and therefore making the overhead
for searching the executable in PATH make smaller in percentage.
How does your $PATH look like, i.e., what directory entries are
before the one of $(which test)? Is there a remote file system
among these entries? What if you move the one for $(which test)
to the beginning of $PATH?
