Hi all,

Let me start by apologizing if this is not the correct newsgroup for this
posting.

However, I'm trying to debug a program for the first time using the gdb and
am hitting a brick wall.

Here's the situation. I'm trying to debug a cgi script that can be executed
from the command line. I compile it using "gcc -o engine.cgi -ggdb -g ...."

Then when I load gdb as in "gdb engine.cgi" I get this error:

 not in executable format: File format not recognized

What is the problem? the file permissions are 777.

Any help would be appreciated.
