greetings net community.

i have recently tried to download and compile gdb 5.0 to run on my
PIII dual 1G linux box.

the reason i was doing this is under 4.18, i would often get an error
saying something to the effect, "cannot insert break point, cannot access
memory....". (under 4.18 i could sometimes delete the break point, start
the program and break in the main function, then set the break point
and continue.)

anyway. now i'm trying to run 5.0 and i get some weird behavior.

the second time i run the program, it tries to find breakpoint -2....

i saw a patch for for the "Pentium III's Streaming SIMD Extensions" on
the web, but i'm not sure if my system admins would install this or not....

i'd appreciate any help or advise (for either version 4.18 or 5)

thanks
  jim
