Indeed, I rebuilt gcc, still failed, rebuilt with binutills 2.10.0.35 and it 
just passed the sunrpc directory.

I'm hoping that it will complete the build successfully.

'tis odd how such a bug escaped detection for so long.  I've been compiling 
kernels and numerous libraries without
problem until now.

Thank you to Andreas and Ulrich.  I'll followup on the configparms and paths 
when the build is successful.
