rel2abs resolves references to ./ and ../ only when they are at the head of 
Therefore, rel2abs cannot be used instead of realpath. 

$ pwd
$ ./rel2abs .././././z.c /a/b/c/x
$ ./rel2abs x/.././././z.c /a/b/c
