[Bug-gnash] Gnash 0.8.4, FreeBSD and firefox plugin: browser hangs

Dear gnash people,

i've been trying to get gnash running on FreeBSD with no luck.
My setup: FreeBSD HEAD, firefox 2.x, and gnash 0.8.4 compiled with gtk
support, agg and ffmpeg or gstreamer.

Firefox recognizes the plugin:

but whenver i try to open any youtube video, the browser hangs and the
main window isn't refreshed anymore: if i drag a window over firefox,
the entire browser window becomes populated with graphic garbage likes
there's no refresh/repaint().

In the xterm window, where i launched firefox, i see this:
