Updating PRs takes minutes to complete

Hello,

We are using gnats-3.113 with gnatsweb-2.8.0.  The problem we are experiencing is a long time delay, 2-3 minutes,  for a PR update to complete when a change is made like reassigning the PR or editing the synopsis.  This occurs in the browser of the user accessing gnatsweb trying to update or reassign a PR,  and with the transaction not completing in 2-3 minutes,  the user can't do anything else in gnats with their browser.

Editing any PRs where only the index file is read and not involving the Categories updates and completes immediately.

We have some 3000 PRs and an index file that is 4 MB in size.  The gnats database is about 145 MB.  We have changed and deleted Categories over a period of time and have moved PRs to different Categories over time as well.

We are running both applications (gnats and gnatsweb) on the same Linux machine with a PIII 750 MHz CPU with 512 MB RAM.  Looking at the system when this delay is occurring,  I see lots of disk I/O,  but no other problems,  like CPU or memory load.

Is there some type of database maintenance or other process that should be done to resolve this issue?  Is this a case for regenerating the index?
