Your king is on 'e', not 'd'.  The queen is on 'd'.

O-O and O-O-O are the standard, accepted way to indicate castling.


Also, there are ways to display the board, so you can always see where the 
pieces are at.  It looks like you ran gnuchess with the xboard command which 
actually turns off some stuff.  (XBoard is a stand-alone generic gui that 
many chess programs use.)


I'd suggest finding another chess program, actually.

One that has a nice gui already built in and is designed for beginners.

GNU Chess can be used with a gui called xboard (a seperate program), either 
way it's not the most friendly of chess programs.
