[Bug-gnu-emacs] latex still running if I yap |

GNU Emacs 20.7.1 ( i386-*-windows98.2222 )
of Tue Jun 13 2000 on buffy
configured using `configureNT'
I have three problems.
1..If I C-c C-f a LaTeX file and then C-C C-v it I get a message from Yap
that it cannot read the *.dvi&dvi^m file. I have tried to fix this by
putting (add-hook 'comint-output-filter-functions 'shell-strip-ctrl-m nil t)
into my .emacs file, but then we have the second problem,
2..Emacs doesn't seem to read the .emacs file.
Finally, and worst of all --
3..If I C-c C-f a LaTeX file, after I exit Emacs, and try to shut down my
computer, it won't shut down because LATEX is still running. No matter how
many times I "end task" it, it won't shut down so that I have to
Ctrl-Alt-Del twice to restart my computer and then shut down normally. This
is a real bother.
Any help would be appreciated. I use GNU Emacs on campus, and would like to
be able to use it at home.
Thanks,
Alex
